Getting There

The Bouddi Spur Walking Track starts from the Mount Bouddi (Dingeldei) Picnic Area, which is located at the end of Mount Bouddi Road in Bouddi National Park.

Mount Bouddi Rd can be accessed via The Scenic Road, and the best way to drive there, coming from the city, is via Gosford and MacMasters Beach.

Below is a map of the walk, including the car park at the picnic area. At the end of the walk, you can continue hiking to Maitland Bay (see track notes below).

Track Notes

The Bouddi Spur Walking Track is a moderately challenging 2.4 km return walk, with lots of steps and uneven surfaces.

Overall, the track is well-maintained and easy to follow, but we strongly recommend wearing reliable hiking shoes.

1. Mount Bouddi (Dingeldei) Picnic Area

As mentioned, the walk starts from the Dingeldei Picnic Area, where you can park your car.

There is ample parking available, with a small roundabout to make driving in and out a little easier.

This quiet picnic area is home to several picnic tables, a barbecue, toilet facilities, and a large shelter, also named the Dingeldei Shelter.

You’ll find the start of the walk at the big signpost next to the shelter, where the path heads straight into the bush via a staircase.

2. Into the Bush

The first section of the bush walk is fairly steep, with various stairs leading the path downhill, until it levels off a bit.

The scenery here is very pretty, surrounded by tall trees and rocky areas. The path is very uneven so it’s important to keep watching your step to avoid injuries.

After about 20 minutes of hiking through the forest, you’ll see the ocean appearing right in front of you.

3. Coastal Views

For the best views, look for a small rocky outcrop that you can easily step onto. The ocean views are pretty amazing from that spot.

This vantage point is also referred to as Bouddi Lookout, although there is no signage confirming that name at all.

Continue on the trail as it keeps descending until you reach the junction with the official Bouddi Coastal Walk, which also marks the end of the Bouddi Spur Walking Track.

4. Optional: Maitland Bay

Once you’ve reached that junction, we recommend continuing the trail to Maitland Bay, as the views towards the beach are fantastic.

To get there, simply follow the path to the right along the coast, and within five minutes, you’ll see the beautiful beach of Maitland Bay appearing.

Once you see the beach, you can continue hiking as far as you like, or you can retrace your steps back up the hill and to the car park.

If you’re keen to continue on the path, there is an old shipwreck you can explore at Maitland Bay, which is quite interesting.

For more information about that beach and a different way to get there, read our Maitland Bay Track guide. It’s a great little hike we recommend doing.
